50 years since the first season of The Midnight Special aired on NBC and it's back.
The Midnight Special was an American tv variety show that aired on NBC during the 1970's and early 80's and now it's re-living those perfomances through it's very own You Tube channel.
Not too dissimilar from the old grey whistle test, the show prided itself on bands/artists playing live.
"The Midnight Special was a groundbreaking and revolutionary show that pushed the boundaries of
what was possible on television as not one broadcaster had programming available after 1am back then," says Burt Sugarman, the show's creator.
"I insisted on live performances in front of an audience, there was no lip syncing."
Sugarman added "I'm thrilled that it will be available for all fans, as well as a new generation of viewers who may not be familiar with the show. Audiences can enjoy hours of classic performances and interviews from the biggest stars of that era."
The show was host to major acts such as AC/DC, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Thin Lizzy and many more and is continually dropping forgotten gems to it's you tube channel.
Along with dozens of clips featuring David Bowie, Tina Turner and Rod Stewart, the full Midnight Special pilot show can also be seen on the shows channel.
